SHFV Consulting is Stephen Herd Family Violence Consulting, identifying that family violence is Steve’s primary area of practice and expertise. Building family violence expertise is relevant not just in the family violence sector, but sectors where family violence is not core business such as Alcohol and Other Drugs (AOD), Mental Health, Housing and Public Health Networks in general. There is increasing pressure and benefit for non-family violence sectors to respond to the family violence needs of their clients and to work within the family violence system.
About
Steve has been involved in the family violence sector for over 15 years, starting as a volunteer telephone counsellor at Mens Referral Service. This led to undertaking training to facilitate mens behaviour change programs (MBCP) and then becoming a social worker. Steve co-facilitated MBCP for 10 years, and for the last 5 years, worked as a Specialist Family Violence Advisor in the Alcohol and Drug (AOD) sector. These experiences and studies, alongside life long lived experience in family violence provide Steve with a strong knowledge and practice base which he loves to share with like minded others.
Steve can help support organisations, teams and individuals to enhance the family violence lens in their everyday work

Secondary Consultation
Steve offers secondary consultation to organisations and individuals to explore options to manage family violence risk. Steve achieves this through the MARAM framework. The MARAM framework can offer guidance even though you and your agency may not have MARAM obligations. Topics discussed stemming from your case cover genderd theory, the family violence system, assessing risk and safety, information sharing, mandatory reporting and case collaboration. Further case consultation needs may also be suggested.

MARAM Alignment
MARAM is the way that family violence is done in Victoria. It covers policy, procedures and practices to help build a consistent approach to recognising and responding to family violence within your clientele. This gives us a common language to work between and across sectors, as well as making family violence more visible, keeping those who experience family violence safe, and those who use violence, more visible and accountable.
Steve can deliver education and information sessions on MARAM showing how it may look in your sector and workplace.
